Location: Makris Lobster and Steak House, Concord

Date: Wednesday, Octobe 12 2016

Windows into the Jurassic: Fossils of the Connecticut Valley

Speaker:

Nicholas McDonald, Author and Geology and Biology Instructo, Westminster School, Simsbury, CT

When asked where dinosaur fossils are found, people are likely to say, "the Western United States," "Mongolia" or other exotic locales.  Even experts are surprised to learn that Connecticut and Massachusetts are home to some of the world's richest fossil deposits dating from the Age of Dinosaurs, some 200 million years ago.  "Window into the Jurassic World", the latest book by paleontologist Nick McDonald, is an authoritative look at early Mesozoic life in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including dinosaurs, fishes, invertebrates and plants.  The author will describe Triassic and Jurassic environments and ecosystems, and the animals that created the famous trackways at Dinosaur State Park, in Rocky Hill, CT.  The presentation will feature color photos of some of the finest fossils yet obtained from the Connecticut Valley, as well as illustrations of the striking dioramas and models at Dinosaur Park.  A book signing will follow

CEU certificates will be available at the end of the evening program for 1.5 hours.
